Do you know why there are so many beautiful women in Daegu?
Many Korean beauty competition winners came from Daegu, declaring that the secret of their beauty is in the apples. Daegu apples are exceptionally sweet and delicious, and include plenty of fiber.

Pyeonggwang-dong Apples Village in Daegu is the location for harvest of the most number of apples, which contain a huge level of Vitamin C. The apples are the top of the special regional products of Daegu and are harvested in Pyeonggwang-dong, a collective cultivation site of 116 year-long tradition.

Daegu, compared to the other areas, is quite warm with only few occasions of rainfall. This was perfect for harvesting apples. From 1960’s until the early 1970’s, the apple harvest amounted up to 80% of that of the entire nation.

If you come to Wanggeon-gil of Pyeonggwang-dong, you will find our country’s oldest tree, an 85-year old hongok apple(Jonathan apple) tree and the ‘Flower of Kent’, which is of the Newton’s apple tree’s species.

You can see the direct descendant of Daegu's first apple tree in Cheongna Hill located near the Dongsan medical missionary museum. This tree was grown from the seed of the first apple tree that led Daegu to become a major apple producer.
