Three special events in Daegu this year - Visit DAEGU 2011






IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011

Since the historic decision of the IAAF Council to award Daegu the rights to host the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Mombasa, Kenya, on 27th March 2007, the Organizing Committee has remained committed to the ideal of delivering the best-ever Championships.

The Organizing Committee has four main objectives. Through the Championships, we aspire to create a lasting athletics legacy in Korea and Asia. In addition, we will provide the most conducive training and competition facilities for all athletes. In conjunction with the IAAF Green Project, we hope to promote environmental preservation. Finally, we look forward to the colourful festivities in Daegu, amid the maximum security.

The Championships is a perfect platform for the most spectacular athletics performances and cultural exchange. Daegu is a thriving city, ready to welcome all participants and tourists to experience its rich history and culture.


The 8th Asia Song Festival

Asia Song Festival is the representative Asian music festival with Asia’s greatest stars and has been held every year since 2004.

Korea Foundation International Culture Exchange (KOFIC) hosts Asia Song Festival (ASF). ASF has been held in Seoul in 2004 and from 2007 to 2010, Busan in 2005, and Gwangju in 2006. Daegu will be the host city for ASF in October, 2011 by means of Visit Daegu 2011.

The greatest stars of 15 teams from 10 Asian countries have participated. ASF has performed in 30 countries across the world as the spot of Asian music, and Asian pop culture exchange with Asia’s greatest stars.

ASF is the only one for international charity music festival in Asia with Asia’s greatest singers and the 4 billion Asian fans by way of Asians from domestic and international who have suffered due to natural disasters, and economic problems, etc. All Asian people will share hopes with one heart beyond the differences of nationality, human race, ideology, religions, and gender through ASF.

Daegu Metropolitan City will show the world’s people Daegu as an international city by contributing to local economic activities and upgrading Daegu’s image brand through promoting IAAF World Championships in Athletics Daegu 2011, Visit Daegu 2011 and attracting international tourists by hosting the 8th Asia Song Festival.


Original Tripitaka Koreana (Chojodaejanggyung) Millennium Project


The year of 2011 is the historical year of greeting the millennium for making and enshrinement of Goryeo Tripitaka Koreana. Chojodaejanggyung Millennium Project, which is selected by Presidential Council on National Competitiveness and supported by the Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism, for praying peace that was the purpose of making Tripitaka Koreana with celebrating the millennium that Chojodaejanggyung made, and has been promoting our excellent cultures.

Chojodaejanggyung Millennium Project includes restitution of Chojodaejanggyung, Millennium Palgwanhoe, the traditional market of monks(Seong-Si), international conferences of Chojodaejanggyung, and producing documentary film.

In addition, ‘Goryeo Palgwanhoe’, which was the international culture EXPO in the Goryeo dynasty around thousand years ago, will be restored in Daegu for the first time as named, Millennium Palgwanhoe. It will offer high quality cultural sightseeing including opening ceremony, traditional cultural events, King’s parade, the traditional royal court ceremony, traditional arts performance, operating exhibition, and traditional cultural experience programs.

Also, the traditional market of monks(Seong-Si) that was a reenactment of the market that was ran by monks in the mountain in the Goryeo dynasty consists of Buddhist food, goods, Buddhist cultural experiences, and traditional cultural events and offer visitors very special experiences.

Daegu Metropolitan City has developed Chojodaejanggyung Millennium Project as the representative Korean historic cultural tourism program by using our excellent cultural resources.
