Palgongsan Tree-lined St. ─ Palgongsan Cafe ─ Cable Car ─ Donghwasa Temple ─ Palgongsan Dinner

Palgongsan Tree-lined St.

One of the best ways to enjoy relaxing holidays is to drive around good places. Driving through Sutaegol to Pagaesa Temple will present you one of the most fabulous scenic views during fall. Hit your favorite music, drive(or enjoy the ride), and stop to walk on foliage. Play with foliage, sit on it, observe individual leaves, feel the sunshine and, most of all, share good laughter with your friend or family.

Palgongsan Cafe

Let’s continue all happy energy with a nice cup of tea! In Palgongsan area, there are a good number of café ranging from trendy to traditional cafes. One of great aspects about Palgongsan cafes is the fact that they are spacious and calming vibe. One café we’d like to recommend is “Pagaemaru” about 10 min away from our first destination. It is a beautiful 2-story hanok building where you can enjoy a variety of teas from black tea to blending tea that cost 7,000 – 8,000won.

Cable Car

Once we are here at Palgongsan area, we need to hike up to the top! For those who are not in the mood for hiking or if you are with your elder parents, take a cable car to conveniently go up to the mountain as you enjoy the view of city from up. The peak is 820m high. Mt. Palgoing is in a shape of phoenix soaring to the sky. Especailly, three rocks—Elephant, goindol and Dalma rocks—are supposed to have great “gi(energy)” Get all energized with great spirit of the mountain and the rocks! Another fun at the top is to have Pajeon and dongdongju for sure! J

Donghwasa Temple

Whether you decided to take a cable car or not, you must visit Donghwasa Temple! There is a parking lot by the temple if you decide to drive here. Donghwasa Temple was first built in 493. At the time, it was called “Yugasa Temple” and later changed to “Donghwasa” to convey the fact that an empress tree bloomed with such a great omen. It is a great complex of more than worshipping halls. The temple has 6 national treasures like Dangganjiju. Many Buddhists visit here to pray for wishes especially before Buddha’s birthday. This doesn’t mean that it is a place only for religious people. Everyone is welcomed here!

Palgongsan Dinner

It’s a little sad that our trip is coming to an end. Whether your friend is visiting you for a day or a few, I bet that exploring Daegu with the friend always seems short. One of the best remedies for this mood is to end the trip with a feast! If you all are up for Korean food(hansik), let’s head over to Umma Babsang! As you can see from the picture, it has a variety of dishes from deonjang jjigae(bean paste stew), beef bulgogi, grilled mackerel to many wild greens. It was such a wonderful time to look around Daegu with you all! Please come back another time! See you all!
